G42 sponsors UFC Fight Island Triple Header in Abu Dhabi

G42, the leading technology company based in Abu Dhabi, has announced it is sponsoring UFC Fight Island Triple Header which will take place between 16 and 24 January 2021, in Abu Dhabi.

The company’s sponsorship of the world-renowned mix-martial arts league, is a result of a strong relationship that begun in 2020 when G42 partnered with the Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT), Abu Dhabi and UFC to play a central role in creating a safe zone with stringent COVID-19 preventive measures including safety protocols and testing for athletes, delegates and fans.

UFC Fight Island One, held in Yas Island in July 2020, occupied an 11km stretch, the safe zone, and was locked off and completely secluded from the rest of the Emirate for the five-week period, to ensure a COVID-free environment for all participants. Over 80 nurses from Biogenix Labs, a G42 Healthcare company, worked round the clock to conduct over 18,000 tests throughout UFC Fight Island. Tests were carried out every 3 days and results were delivered in less than 12 hours to create a safe ‘bubble’ in the midst of the pandemic.

For the current UFC Fight Highland Triple Header, G42 is once again collaborating with UFC and DCT to allow the event to take place at the Etihad Arena, in front of thousands of fans.

Looking ahead, G42 plans to collaborate with UFC and use its unique AI expertise to further improve the sport. AI will be used to analyze thousands of matches and other data points to offer result predictions, to support fight strategy, athletes’ training and selection, as well as to improve broadcasting.

AI holds great promise for sports as companies recognize the need to go beyond just tracking data to converting meaningful insights that will transform the industry.
